1. MOHALE’S HOEK

A. A 52-year-old man, Tseliso Mvelase of Holy Cross, was sentenced to 25 years in prison by the Maseru High Court on 04/06/2026. The man was charged with the murder of Motlotlehi Motjamela (46), from the same village. On 12/12/2020, the deceased was seen fighting with someone; when people rushed to the scene, the deceased fled but was arrested. Tseliso, who was a councillor at the time, allegedly stabbed the deceased to death when he arrived at the scene.

B. A 31-year-old woman from Ha Turupu Thabana-Morena in Mafeteng, is facing charges of theft and unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition. Reports indicate that a 74-year-old man from Motimposo, Maseru, who lives in Lekhoaba, Mohale’s Hoek, was robbed of two 9mm pistols and 10 rounds of ammunition. Investigations led to the woman, who is the man’s mistress. Both pistols were recovered, although one had already been transferred to another person. The motive for the theft is reportedly that the man said he was breaking up with the woman, and she was not satisfied with the matter. She will appear in court once investigations are completed.

2. MOKHOTLONG

A 39-year-old man, Amohelang Kali-kali from Thabang appeared before the Mokhotlong Magistrates’ Court on 05/06/2026, charged with the theft of steel reinforcement wires. The report indicates that the SIGMA company in Mokhotlong placed its reinforcement wires at Ha Kotsie, under the care of the accused. It was there that the accused stole the wires. In total, 138 reinforcement wires worth M400,000.00 had disappeared. After being arrested, he took the police to the location of the property. The Court granted him bail of M1,000.00, which he managed to pay. He will once again appear in Court on the 18/06/2026.

3. THABA-TSEKA

A 28-year-old man from Ha Nkokana has been arrested by the police on suspicion of murdering a 74-year-old woman from the same village. The report indicates that on 06/06/2026 at 23:00hrs, the suspect beat the woman with a stick. She was taken to the hospital on 07/06/2026 at 11:00 hrs in the morning but passed away before reaching the facility. She was found with bruises all over her body. The reason for the attack is that the woman was having a romantic relationship with the suspect’s 61-year-old father, and they were caught sleeping together. That was when the suspect beat the woman while his father fled. It is said that he did not like the relationship between the woman and his father. He will appear in Court once investigations are completed.

4. MASERU URBAN

On 07/06/2026 at 4:00 am, a woman aged between 30 and 38 years was seen walking with a bag, but when she was near a car wash business in Lithabaneng, she fell to the ground. People who went to her aid found that she was carrying an infant in the bag. A police ambulance rushed her to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Doctors said the baby was about three days old. It is not known where she was going, but it is suspected that she was on her way to abandon the baby.

5. MASERU RURAL

A 79-year-old man from Ha Mafefooane handed over a Galil-style gun and 8 bullets to the police on 06/06/2026. The report indicates that the man had married a widow, whose late husband was a soldier. She was already in possession of this gun when they married. The woman, who owned the gun, died years ago, and the man kept it until he handed it over.

Meanwhile, a 38-year-old woman from Temaneng handed over a 9mm model gun and 15 bullets on 06/06/2026. The explanation given is that the gun belongs to her husband, who works in South Africa and instructed her to hand it over to the police. This follows an appeal by Lesotho Mounted Police Service to the public, to hand over illegally acquired guns and ammunition.
