BUTHA-BUTHE
On the 26/05/2026, two women from Ha Shepeseli, Leribe, ’Mabalekiwe Sebolaoa (48), and Ntsekiseng Sebolaoa (28), appeared before Butha-Buthe Magistrate’s Court, charged with assaulting a 42-year-old man with an iron object, breaking his leg. This incident occurred on 22/04/2026, at Ha Shepeseli.
The court released them on M1,000.00 bail, each, which they managed to pay. They are scheduled to appear in court again on the 09/06/2026.
According to the report, the incident occurred after the first accused’s husband allegedly bought alcohol for the complainant. The accused was unhappy about this, leading to the fight.
BEREA
Two men, Mokatsanyane Lematla (57), from Maputsoe, Ha Maqele, and Kali (Maseko) Nkaota (40), of Fobane ha Tumo, appeared before the Berea Magistrate’s Court on the 01/06/2026 charged with unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
The court found them guilty as charged and sentenced them to five years’ imprisonment or to pay a fine of M5,000.00. They managed to pay.
They had been arrested on the 29/05/2026, in Teya-Teyaneng, after police received information that there were armed men in the area. Police found them in possession of three 9mm firearms and 52 rounds of ammunition, all held illegally.
THABA-TSEKA
First Case:
Matakatso Leteketa (41) of Lihloaeleng, Mantšonyane, appeared before the Thaba-Tseka Magistrate’s Court on the 27/05/2026, charged with arson and malicious damage to property.
He is awaiting trial at the Lesotho Correction Services, and is due to appear in court again on 09/06/2026.
The report states that the accused had a dispute with his mother, claiming that she owed him M1,200.00. On the 23/05/2026, while alone at his home, he allegedly set the house on fire with the intention of causing emotional distress to his mother.
Second Case:
On the 29/05/2026, Mosebo Moketa (31), of Ha Phaila, Thaba-Tseka, appeared before the Thaba-Tseka Magistrate’s Court charged with housebreaking and malicious damage to property.
The court found him guilty as charged.
- On the first charge, he was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment or to pay a fine of M4,000.00.
- On the second charge, he was sentenced to six years’ imprisonment or a fine of M8,000.00.
He failed to pay.
The report states that on the 28/05/2026, the accused had a disagreement with his sister at her house, Mohlakeng. He then entered and damaged her refrigerator and wardrobe. The accused stated in his defence that he had been intoxicated and knew nothing about the incident.
MASERU RURAL
A 34-year-old man from Ha Mosamo, Ha Mokhalinyane, is awaiting trial at the Lesotho Correctional Services, following his appearance before Maseru Magistrate’s Court, on the 29/05/2026. He is charged with grievous bodily harm and malicious damage to property.
The court denied him bail, and he is scheduled to appear again on the 10/06/2026.
According to the police report, the suspect was involved in an argument with the complainant (woman) at a local traditional beer establishment at Ha Mokhalinyane. When the shop owner intervened, the suspect allegedly pushed her, causing her to break her leg.
The suspect then reportedly continued by damaging property in the bar, including a computer, the counter, and other items.
